Dear IREM San Antonio members,

Join us for our virtual panel discussion on May 21st to hear from 3 experts in the field whom are currently dealing with the response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as the city's reopening plans over the next couple of weeks.


We are excited to introduce you to our 3 panelists:

Curt KruserCurt Kruser is Market President at Vantage Bank Texas. Curt brings 20 years of banking and leadership experience, with a focus on commercial banking. He invests in himself through daily reading on leadership, scripture, devotionals and surrounds himself with wise mentors to shape him and hold him accountable in his growth as a leader.

Curt graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2001 with a Bachelor of Business degree in Accounting. Curt is also a Graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. Curt is an alumnus of North Chamber Leadership Lab and Leadership San Antonio.

Curt spends his free time with his fiancée, Angie along with their combined four active teenagers who regularly remind him how “uncool” he is. He is an avid sportsman and community supporter.


Dr. Lorenzo D. SanchezDr. Lorenzo D. Sanchez is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) with experience developing, coordinating, and implementing emergency preparedness and response programs in local government and higher education. He currently serves as the Director of Risk & Emergency Management for The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Department of Public Safety.

Prior to UTSA, Dr. Sanchez held various emergency management positions in local government and the private sector to include the City of San Antonio - Office of Emergency Management, Miami-Dade County - Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, U.R.S. Corporation, and the City of Austin - Austin Energy. Dr. Sanchez’ emergency management experience include responding to local and federally declared emergencies, such as statewide power outages, wildfires, public health outbreaks, severe weather, flooding, campus emergencies, Tropical Storm(s) Fay & Hermine, Hurricane Ike, Hurricane Harvey, and many large special events among others.

Dr. Sanchez holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (B.A. ‘03) degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio, a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A. ‘06) from the University of North Texas, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D. ‘18) in Applied Demography degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio.


Carol SchliesingerCarol Schliesinger is an Assistant Marketing and Communications Manager at the City of San Antonio assisting in the COVID-19 pandemic response. She has served as Public Information Officer for the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District for eight years. Carol has managed risk communications for the Health Department during several national emergencies, including Ebola, Zika, West Nile virus and Hurricane Harvey. In addition to public health, Carol has extensive experience in mental health communications and covering health and business issues as a former journalist. She has a master’s in journalism from the Moody School of Communications at the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s in business administration from St Mary's Univesity.
