I was introduced to the IREM San Antonio Chapter very early in my career, quite possibly Day 1! Being a member of this organization has been instrumental in my professional development. IREM has provided so many valuable resources & leadership programs that have helped me grow both personally and professionally.
With two small kids at home, my free time has been replaced by playground duty, Barbie diplomacy, and puzzles missing at least one critical piece. This year, I’m focusing on being more intentional about carving out self-care moments, no matter how small!
It’s been nearly 10 years since I earned my designation! Looking back, obtaining my CPM was one of the best professional decisions I made. The credentials have opened so many doors and reinforced my commitment to excellence in property management.
When my kids aren't demanding to watch Frozen for the hundredth time, I enjoy catching up on ridiculous reality TV or getting absorbed in one of Taylor Sheridan's collections - 1883, 1923 and LandMan were my favorites!
Like many in this field, I didn't set out to become a property manager, but real estate always fascinated me. While in college, I thought I wanted to be a real estate agent until I discovered that sales were not my strength. A friend's mom worked in property management and encouraged me to explore it…and the rest is history!
Please list society contributions through your jobThis past November, SageView Partners volunteered for the day at Haven for Hope. I love a good volunteer moment where you actually get put to work. My husband and I chopped HUGE bags of carrots for hours and it was oddly therapeutic.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a horrible decision maker, so "favorite restaurant" is a loaded question. Let's just say that if there are chips & queso on the menu, I'm a happy camper!
My husband and I finally made it to Turks & Caicos last year for our delayed honeymoon. We had a COVID wedding, so five years later felt like the perfect time to celebrate in style! It was a dream destination that had been on both of our bucket lists, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I'm completely spoiled now—the beaches are breathtaking!
Property management keeps me on my toes. The relationships I build and the challenges I solve make every day interesting and rewarding.
I graduated from the University of Texas in 2011 with a BS in Corporate Communications and a minor in Business. I earned my Real Estate License in 2013, my CPM Designation In 2015 and my RPA in 2021.
I’m not usually an emotional person, but I full-on ugly cried at my four-year-old daughter’s recent Christmas program. Apparently, that’s all it takes to completely undo me. Tiny voices, big confidence, and a reminder that the little moments really are the big ones.

Please give us your background journey into real estate
My mission in commercial real estate started during my sophomore year at UTSA, when I first discovered the industry and realized how much I connected with the work behind the built environment. Since then, I’ve gained hands-on experience through a fellowship in loan servicing and asset management, as well as an internship in property management. Those roles have given me a strong foundation in financial analysis, operations, and market understanding, especially within San Antonio and the broader Texas region.
These experiences haven’t just taught me technical skills—they’ve helped me understand how deals come together, how assets perform, and how communities grow. I’m committed to contributing to that growth here in Texas, which is home for personal reasons, but I’m also open to exploring opportunities out of state when the right fit aligns with my goals. Ultimately, my mission is to bring a strong work ethic, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to creating value in every organization and community I join.

I joined the IREM San Antonio chapter because I wanted to advance my knowledge in the property management field and connect with experienced professionals in the industry. I was actively looking for ways to grow, so I started researching organizations that offer strong educational resources, networking opportunities, and professional development. Through that search, I found IREM SA. The chapter’s reputation for supporting property managers and providing high‑quality learning opportunities really stood out to me, so I decided to get involved.
In my free time, I really enjoy gardening. I love working on my flower beds, improving my landscaping, and finding new ways to make my outdoor spaces look better. It’s something that keeps me busy, helps me unwind, and lets me be creative.

The Big Bang Theory
My journey into real estate started in a very operational and hands‑on environment. I began my career as an administrative assistant supporting bank branch construction. In that role, I regularly interacted with contractors, engineers, and key decision‑makers. It gave me early exposure to how buildings are planned, built, and maintained.
From there, I was given the opportunity to move into Property Management with Credit Human. My initial responsibilities included ensuring rents were paid, handling lease renewals, and managing a very manual work‑order process. As I grew in the role, more responsibilities were added, and I eventually became involved in facilities projects—everything from remodels to space configurations. I also took on insurance responsibilities as the team expanded.
What really kept me engaged was the multitasking aspect and the fact that no two days were the same. The variety of work, the problem‑solving, and the operational challenges are what ultimately drew me deeper into real estate and property management, and it’s what continues to motivate me in the field today.

The best vacation I’ve ever taken was a family trip to Puerto Vallarta. I loved the combination of beautiful beaches, relaxing scenery, and all the activities we could do together. It was the perfect mix of fun and downtime, and having my family there made it even more memorable.
What I enjoy most about my job is the combination of people, variety, and impact. I really like working with different teams and vendors, and I enjoy the multitasking aspect—there’s always something new to solve or a different mindset to switch into. I also appreciate how my work touches so many areas of the credit union, from operations to facilities and member‑facing spaces. Seeing positive outcomes, especially when issues are resolved smoothly, is really rewarding. And I enjoy the networking and relationship‑building that comes with the role—it keeps the work dynamic and meaningful.
I graduated from Holmes High School here in San Antonio, and I went on to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting from the University of the Incarnate Word. I also completed my CPM certification, which has strengthened my knowledge and professionalism in property management.
A fun fact about my family is that I have three adult children, and my wife and I have been married for 26 years. Our home is also full of pets—we have four dogs and one cat. The funny part is that the cat is completely anti‑social, so the dogs run the house while the cat prefers to stay in her own world. It definitely keeps things interesting.

My original intention for going to the university was to become a doctor. I ventured into psychology and community health before graduating with a bachelor's degree in child professional services. I wanted to live in Austin and find a job in human resources but ultimately came back to San Antonio. During my journey in finding something related to my degree, I applied to a temping agency to help me field for a career path. After two years and working odd jobs, I was assigned to a property administrative assignment with a local commercial property management company. That was several years ago, and I've worked my way up to my current role with no plan to pump the brakes! I hear that "nobody goes to college to become a property manager", and I think that's so funny and true. I honestly never imagined myself being in this industry and I think life gives you what you need and not what you want; sometimes it turns out to be better than you could've ever imagined!

What is the best vacation that you have ever taken?
I spent a week on the island of Caye Caulker in Belize this past July with my boyfriend, and it was incredible. The island motto is "Go Slow" and we sure did! I fed tarpon fish, pet/swam with stingrays and swam with several nurse sharks during a snorkeling excursion. We saw several turtles, the beautiful coral reef, eagle rays and a couple of manatees. During the day we rode our bikes everywhere to explore every inch of the island. We watched many beautiful sunsets and sunrises and enjoyed delicious food. We were there during Lobster Fest, so lobster nuggets became my favorite snack. It was a perfect, relaxing week!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I thoroughly enjoy building rapport with our tenants and clients. I believe that providing great customer service and a clear line of communication can make a huge difference in the day-to-day operations of property management. I enjoy learning about the different building and operating systems and how they impact the building's daily function.
What is your educational background?
I graduated from Texas A&M University, College Station with a bachelor's degree in child professional services and a double minor in Human Resources and Sociology.
Are there any fun facts or stories you would like to share about your family/children?
My uncle Luis Lopez, is a local artist who was commissioned for several art pieces for downtown restaurants and all-around San Antonio. He has several sculptures in the Tobin Hill area near his studio "La Casa Rosa" and an accordion sculpture along the Riverwalk Public Art Garden as a tribute to the Hispanic/Latin culture.

She came by it naturally by hearing the phone conversations and attending the many late night property issues often taking pictures for the owner report!

I worked in several different industries before finding my way into real estate. My aunt, who has been in the industry for many years, knew my work ethic and encouraged me when the right opportunity came along. She connected me with Yolanda Flores for an assistant property manager position, and that meeting opened the door to my career in property management. From there, I knew I had found the right fit, and the rest is history.

Through my role in property management, I have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions not only to our tenants, but also to the broader community. I work to create safe, professional environments where businesses can thrive, while also supporting local vendors and contractors who help keep our properties running smoothly. I enjoy organizing tenant events that foster connection and community within our buildings, and I take pride in being a reliable resource during emergencies or unexpected challenges. Beyond day-to-day operations, I’m also passionate about education and mentorship, which is why I serve on IREM’s Education Committee to help further professional growth in the industry. Together, these efforts allow me to enhance the quality of life for tenants and contribute to the strength of the communities we serve.

What is the best vacation that you have ever taken?

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy that each day brings its own unique challenges. I love investigating, figuring things out, and finding solutions, and this role provides plenty of opportunities to do just that. No two days are ever the same, which keeps the work exciting and rewarding.

Although we have five children, I gave birth to our four girls, and apparently, we were destined to have them in pairs! Our older two are considered Irish twins, being only 10.5 months apart, and our younger two are just over a year and a half apart. Life is definitely busy, but it’s also full of so much love and laughter.

What brought you to the IREM SA Chapter?
I relocated from Atlanta to San Antonio in 2022. I was excited to finish my CPM journey, and I joined IREM-ATX, because I planned on working in Austin. I had the most incredible people, Jen George, to help me navigate and support me as I finished my classes. I loved getting involved, volunteering and steering membership to IREM. When I decided to 'Get Grounded' and start making my roots in San Antonio, I inquired about changing chapters. They were thrilled and connected me to the loveliest people and 'my tribe' on the Programming Committee. It has been a fantastic experience, and I have jumped in with a big splash!
What hobbies keep you busy?
My hobbies are my family, my work and my friends. I love spending time with my family and creating experiences and making our time together count. My dad is 92 years old (and has attended and IREM event!), so he is a huge part of my focus. I love being outdoors, hiking and walking and just 'breathing'. You could say people are my hobby, because I'm always getting involved or conjuring up some crazy and fun plan! And church of course, always.
If received, when did you receive your certification?

What is your favorite TV show at the moment?
I'm not a big TV person, but I LOVE movies. Watching movies is a great distraction and quiet time with my husband and animals.

I have been in the multifamily industry for over 25 years off and on. I started in the apartment industry in Austin, married and moved my way through the Southeast, Midwest and East Coast. They say you never really leave multifamily real estate, and you don't. Helping people find homes is the core of what we do, but knowing the financial real estate piece is priceless and help pull the bigger picture together. I love working with clients and helping them see their business plan come to fruition or strategize when it is not. I've been in multiple roles in multiple states and am always learning and being energized by new ideas and new people!

What is your favorite restaurant?
The Angus Barn in North Carolina. In San Antonio, I love Casa Rio and taking in our beautiful River Walk culture!

All of the best vacations I have taken have been when I've spent time with my children. From Disney World to the Grand Canyon, making memories with them and bringing them joy will always be my favorite and most fulfilling thing. :)
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Way too many things to mention! Our culture, our people, and of course my amazing team! What I love most is I work in a culture where I can bring my best, authentic self to the table and celebrate what I love...people! They appreciate making an impact is important to me and allow me to use my passion and creativity to grow our company and make our communities and world a better place. They also support my professional growth and value that I am a life-long learner! We are diverse, kind and very passionate about what we do. I am super blessed!
What is your educational background?
I graduated from James Madison High School in San Antonio and move on to Southwest Texas State University, way back when. For one summer break, I was invited to work as a Leasing Agent in Austin and left after my sophomore year! I loved it so much and began traveling on lease-up's all around the country. It was a great time! I have my John Maxwell Certified Leadership Mentor/Speaker Certification, my CAPS and my CPM. Education is very important to me, and I love challenging myself with new certifications!
Are there any fun facts or stories you would like to share about your family/children?

While pursuing my degree in Real Estate Finance and Development at UTSA, I enrolled in a facility management class where I was first introduced to IREM and became a student member. Shortly after joining CBRE, I met Tiffany Korbell, who was actively involved with IREM. Her encouragement, along with my interest in earning the ACoM and CPM designations, motivated me to become more engaged with the organization.
What hobbies keep you busy?
Most of my weekends are spent watching my kids play sports, from baseball to swimming, or finding fun activities to keep the family entertained. I enjoy things like swimming, escape rooms, bingo, and trips to the arcade. I also love going on cruises whenever I can, and lately I’ve been hooked on Colleen Hoover and Freida McFadden books, which are nearly impossible to put down once I start one.

I earned my ACoM certification in May 2019 and my CPM designation in July 2023.
What is your favorite TV show at the moment?
I usually go for whatever’s trending on Netflix. Lately, I’ve been hooked on Virgin River, Emily in Paris, Queen of the South, and Shameless. I’m also a huge fan of Yellowstone, 1923, and Landman.
Please give us your background journey into real estate
My journey in real estate began while I was working at a marketing agency as a promotional specialist for Brown-Forman products, such as Jack Daniel’s, Herradura, and Woodford Reserve. My manager at the time was also a property manager of an apartment community and was looking for a leasing agent, which opened the door for me to step into real estate. As I gained experience, I became interested in earning my real estate license, which I completed before deciding to return to school at UTSA. During my time at UTSA, one of my professors referred me to a commercial real estate company, which allowed me to transition into the commercial side of the industry.

I see my role as more than just managing buildings. I’m helping my tenants succeed, and when businesses thrive, they create jobs, strengthen the local economy, and provide services that benefit the whole community. By supporting my tenants, I feel I’m making a positive impact on society as a whole.
What is your favorite restaurant?
My go-to restaurant for special occasions is Chama Gaucha. I also love Pasha, Taco Palenque, and La Panadería, but my all-time favorite is a Venezuelan spot in Katy called Maxi Arepa.
What is the best vacation that you have ever taken?
We usually take a cruise each year to a tropical destination, but this past year we changed it up with a cruise to Alaska. It quickly became one of my favorite vacations. I loved the breathtaking scenery, the peaceful atmosphere, and the chance to enjoy nature together as a family. Another favorite was a road trip to Arizona, where we stopped at the same places my parents once took me, like the White Sand Dunes in New Mexico, enjoyed the snow at Mount Lemmon, and spent a week in a cabin on the mountain. It was so special to share those experiences with my kids and watch them create memories just like I did when I was younger.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most about being a property manager is that no two days are ever the same. I like having a mix of being in the office and out on site, whether it’s walking properties, meeting with tenants and vendors, or handling financials. It’s rewarding to see a property thrive, knowing my work helps everything run smoothly while creating lasting value for both tenants and owners.
What is your educational background?
I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate Finance and Development.
Are there any fun facts or stories you would like to share about your family/children?
I have twin boys who were born six hours apart, almost on two different days! I also have four dogs and two cats. I come from a diverse family background; my dad is from Venezuela and my husband is from Iraq.

What brought you to the IREM SA Chapter?
Joining the San Antonio IREM Chapter felt like the perfect move for me. I was eager to take my education and career to the next level, and I knew that surrounding myself with people who share my passion for real estate property management would be invaluable. What is your favorite TV show at the moment?
Landman - I used to manage properties in Midland, Texas so I am very invested!!
Please give us your background journey into real estate
My journey into property management was a happy accident, much like many others from my generation. While in college, I stumbled upon a part-time gig as a "leasing agent assistant." Little did I know, my role primarily involved the riveting task of typing lease clauses into preformatted documents using a TYPEWRITER! Whenever the clauses didn't fit, it was a game of asterisks and cross-referencing. One day, I took a creative leap - retyping the document on my personal computer and saving it on a floppy disk. The next day, I popped the disk into the office's sole computer and presented it to my leasing agent. Let’s just say, I had my hero moment!
Proving my worth quickly paid off. I remember being called out of a college class to the dean's office. My employer was after me (ah, the pre-cellphone days!). They offered me full-time work in the property management division as the receptionist had just quit. Though I was set on finishing my senior year, they sweetened the deal by offering to cover my last semester if I took night classes and worked for them during the day. I couldn't resist and negotiated my way to a computer instead of typewriter and $8.00 per hour instead of $6.00!! I thought I was the negotiator in chief with that deal!
From then on, my career skyrocketed - from receptionist to Assistant Property Manager, then Property Manager, Senior Property Manager, Vice President of Property Management, and now, in my dream job as General Manager. It's been an incredible journey that I cherish deeply. I'm passionate about my work and absolutely love my career!

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of contributing to society in various meaningful ways. I've been actively involved in community service projects such as creating Easter baskets for the children at Haven for Hope, serving meals to the houseless community, serving on food line collections through the San Antonio Food Bank, collecting and donating essential goods for families in need, and amongst other things, wrapping and delivering gifts for the Elf Louise Christmas project.
I've also dedicated time to volunteering with Meals on Wheels, the Texas Diaper Bank, United Way of San Antonio, Oak Hills & Community Bible Church's Operation Christmas Child, the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner, and Operation Turkey in San Antonio.
Moreover, this industry has allowed me the time to extend my service globally by participating in several international mission trips. These experiences include building homes, installing solar panels, feeding those in need, sharing the Gospel, and enriching my life through interactions with diverse cultures.

I can't single out one vacation as the best because I have been blessed with the opportunity to explore diverse parts of the world, from the vast landscapes of Africa to the cultural richness of Europe, the vibrant energy of South America, the charm of Central America, the familiarity of North America, and the breathtaking beauty of Iceland. Each destination offers unique experiences that touch my heart and soul.
I'm deeply grateful for the sights, sounds, tastes, and touches that nature and the earth provide, and I try to acknowledge this sense of wonder in every journey. Ultimately, the most memorable vacations are those shared with my two wonderful children. No matter where we go, as long as I'm with them, every vacation is truly special.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most about my job is the dynamic nature. No two days are ever the same! With years of experience under my belt, I take great joy in confidently tackling whatever the day throws at me. It's incredibly rewarding to foster professional relationships with my team, where empathy, compassion, and understanding are at the forefront. I love the opportunity to build and nurture teams that thrive - that brings me immense satisfaction. Ultimately, it doesn’t even feel like work because I’m doing something I truly love.
What is your educational background?
I have a BBA in Marketing from the University of Texas San Antonio.
I am a Certified Property Manager.
And, I am currently working on reinstating my Texas Real Estate License.
Are there any fun facts or stories you would like to share about your family/children?
I am incredibly proud to be the mother of two remarkable women who call me "mom". They are both exceptional individuals who uphold their core values and stand firmly for what they believe in. Love, compassion, and a strong drive to give back to the community are at the heart of who they are.
My eldest recently embarked on a new adventure by moving to Watertown, NY, while my youngest is thriving in her Junior year at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Both have wonderful companions in my "granddogs". My eldest's Catahoula Leopard Mix, "Cream," is a sweet and loving presence in her life. Meanwhile, my youngest has "Flora," a terrier mix with a spirit for adventure. Flora is always ready with her doggy backpack, eager to join her on a spontaneous camping trip. And, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention our "Chesney" (named in honor of Kenny Chesney), an adorable, feisty Bishon Frise who passed in 2020 due to cancer. Together, my daughters, their adorable dogs, and the memory of Chesney bring an abundance of joy and warmth into my life.

Meet Dustin Christensen, CPM
What brought you to the IREM SA chapter?
I was fortunate enough to meet Natalie Smith a few years while she was at The Pearl and a few local shopping center managers were getting together for happy hour. I really only knew about ICSC before, and she opened the door to IREM. My first event was the 2024 panel luncheon she moderated, and I loved hearing about not only retail but all sectors. Then the putt-putt event showed how fun a group IREM SA is.
What hobbies keep you busy?
My current hobby seems to be as an Uber for our 15-year-old son to his early morning and after school ROTC training and then our 12 year old daughters theater, choir, golf, volleyball, UIL and whatever she decides she's going to try tomorrow. I'm also a huge fan of concerts. I have recently seen Journey, Billy Joel, Sting, Weezer and Morgan Wallen and usually go to any big 80's alternative band tours, like The Cure or Depeche Mode.

Please give us your background journey into real estate: I started as a marketing coordinator for a mall in Utah way back in 2003 after college and did things like organizing sidewalk sales, back to school events and photos with Santa. Worked my way up within that company at malls in Utah and Idaho and left after 4 years as the Marketing Manager over a large mall in Provo, UT where I had the very cool opportunity to negotiate a filming deal for the MTV movie “The American Mall” before leaving. We moved to Ohio for my wife to do her Emergency Medicine residency and it was there I moved into the Property Manager side of the industry. I managed a small mall outside Columbus where I first learned about dealing with snow removal and the importance of working with local government to help lure in larger tenants, as we did with Dick Sporting Goods. I remained there for over 3 years until we started our family and decided to move back here to my hometown of San Antonio to be closer to family. In San Antonio I stayed in malls for several years managing Rolling Oaks Mall and Ingram Park Mall and doing the marketing for North Star Mall and Shops at La Cantera. I left enclosed malls in 2019 and have loved managing large power shopping centers ever since. I was with my previous employer for 4 years and traveled quite often to Dallas, Houston, Austin and Orlando overseeing up to 12 shopping centers at a time, where I really learned to work with my tenants to be my partner and eyes and ears when I wasn’t in town. I left after being presented with the opportunity to take over for an amazing Director of Property Management who oversaw The Forum at Olympia Parkway and decided to retire after over 15 years there. A fun fact about The Forum is that it actually spans over the three cities of Universal City, Live Oak and Selma. I also manage a large shopping center in Columbus, GA that I travel to every few weeks. This company is the first privately owned developer I’ve worked for and much smaller than all the REIT’s I was at before. We don’t have tenant coordinators like my previous companies and so I have taken on a much larger role in the construction side. It’s been a great opportunity to learn so much about that side and really study plans and watch the build outs of projects like Barnes & Noble here at The Forum and then decommissioning the upper level and splitting the lower level of a former Sears in Columbus for a Floor and Décor. My current company also owns multi-family and hotels and while these assets aren’t part of my role yet, the possibility of that happening in the future is really what drew me to IREM and helped push me to finally commit to getting my CPM designation.
Please list society contributions through your job:
Throughout my shopping center career I had the opportunity to work with dozens of nonprofits in Utah, Idaho and San Antonio. We hosted their events or had promotions with nonprofits being the beneficiary. I actually took a break from the industry and worked for The DoSeum and Salvation Army where I did corporate partnerships and planned large events like galas and luncheons.
What is your favorite restaurant?
B Daddy's BBQ
What is the best vacation that you have ever taken?
Going to Negril, Jamaica with my wife for my 40th birthday.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I treat every property like it's my house and so I enjoy working with vendors and tenants who share that type of pride and work ethic to ensure our house looks the best it can.
What is your educational background?
Graduated with a Bachelor's in Public Relations from Weber State University in Ogden, UT.
Are there any fun facts or stories you would like to share about your family/children?
Like most parents, it's crazy how fast they are growing up and I hate Facebook for their constant posting of photos from years ago showing how small they were. Our son is autistic, and it's been amazing seeing his journey and growth thanks to help from organizations like the Brighton Center and Kinetic Kids and such caring teachers and special education staff at Stone Oak Elementary, Bush Middle School and now Reagan. I also can’t believe the acting talent our daughter has and the love for being front stage at her school plays where she stared as Toto in Wizard of Oz and continues to earn larger and larger roles, even winning a UIL medal for having to fill in last minute as the understudy for an actor who got sick the night before the competition.

Please give us your background journey into real estate:
I joined the real estate industry after a decade of working with children in private schools and the non-profit world. As many know, I suffered a minor stroke in 2008 which left me with a seizure disorder. That disorder is exacerbated with illness and working with large groups of children was frowned upon by my medical team. After much prayer, I made the difficult decision to walk away from that career path and start over. I was lucky enough to find Gardner Peavy (through a mutual friend) and he took a chance on me. He encouraged me to take IREM classes and fully supported my involvement. I believe that IREM SA was a true launching point of my career and I am grateful for all of the door it has opened for me over the past decade.

Gregg Jenner
Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in Boston Massachusetts. I played soccer and Ice Hockey my entire childhood. I worked a part time job as a maintenance technician for a small property management company during my Junior High and High School holiday and summer vacations. After studying for a degree in Architectural Design and Land surveying, I joined IREM Boston in 1989. After attaining the ARM accreditation in 1994, I moved into a property managers role and after attaining the CPM designation in 2000, I moved into a regional role and then Vice President before retiring in 2024. I have been married to my wife Lia for 30 years, we have two sons Stephen and Alexx and two dogs Lenny and Jenney. We moved to San Antonio, TX in 2021.
How long have you been a member of IREM and what do you like most about the organization?
Well, I started in Property Management as a 13-year-old kid trying to make extra money during my summer vacations. Never in a million years did I expect to make it a 43-year career. I joined IREM after being promoted from maintenance supervisor to office assistant, I absolutely fell in love with real estate and having the ability to help so many people find stable and permanent housing. I joined IREM in 1989, started taking classes and traveling the country. Once I became an ARM, I decided to get more involved with IREM so I joined some of the local IREM committees which led me to national committees. I took all of the required classes and attained my CPM designation and became even more involved in the local IREM chapter. In 2018, I served as the President of the then largest chapter in the world, the Boston Chapter of IREM. I stayed involved on the local and national levels and became an instructor teaching the Ethics classes. IREM gave me the opportunities that I never dreamed of, the people I met, the relationships I formed, the experiences and the knowledge is why I was able to be so successful in my career.
What brought you to the IREM SA chapter?
We relocated to San Antonio in 2021 and I immediately joined the local chapter where I was welcomed with open arms. The friendliest group of professionals I have ever met. I was able to enjoy 2+ years working alongside of this industries top real estate professionals.

During our journey in property management together we had two sons, Alexx and Stephen. Alexx is here with us in Texas while Stephen decided to stay in Boston to pursue his career.
What hobbies keep you busy?
I have been a pretty hard-core ice hockey player playing goalie my entire life. I retired from hockey in 2022 and now I am trying to figure out how to successfully garden here in Texas. Our family enjoyed 20+ years of championships in Boston with Tom Brady, the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins all winning world championships.
What is the best vacation that you have ever taken?
Well as we all know, a career in real estate and property management doesn't ever really allow you to take a true vacation as our responsibilities require 24/7/365 attention. I guess I’d have to say all of the mini vacations traveling to sporting events with our children created the most enjoyable memories.
What is your favorite TV show at the moment?
I am an acorn, I love The Curse of Oak Island but my favorite right now is Naked and Afraid. I could do that show!!!
What is your favorite restaurant?
Nationwide I would have to say Davios is our all-time favorite restaurant but we discovered the best Italian restaurant right here in San Antonio called Naples. If you want authentic Italian food cooked to perfection Naples is a MUST TRY!!

Charlie Malmberg, Valcor's managing partner and CPM, CCIM
Certification Types Received/Seeking
It took a few years to complete the journey, but this year, I completed the CPM program and became a certified CPM.
How has IREM contributed to your career?
IREM has helped me gain more confidence in my position as a commercial property manager. I think the biggest contribution IREM has made is connecting me with other property managers in San Antonio. Many of us have become great friends and have been able to lean on each other for professional advise.
Background Journey into Real Estate
I have been in and around Real Estate my entire life. I come from a family of Real Estate brokers and investors and grew up hearing the lingo and listening to strategies. I started my real estate career while I attended college. It was flexible and I could work around my school schedule. Years later, I began working with the San Antonio Housing Authority in low income housing. It was a great experience and I loved helping those in need. I then moved on to Multi family where I managed 250-350 unit class A apartment homes. As much as I loved Multi-family, once I had my daughter, I got out of the industry to be able to spend more time with my family. Almost 7 years ago, I was hired at Valcor Commercial Real Estate as a commercial property manager. Little did I know that Valcor would be such an amazing place to work. My time at Valcor and in commercial real estate has been more rewarding than any other real estate industry I have worked in. I now manage retail, office and industrial.

After flying to Ohio to help my dad find THE home for him, I decided I needed to do this for a living! Two years ago I became the Senior Portfolio Manager with Sheer Value Property Management. I manage single family, multi family, short-term and long-term rentals.
Personal Tidbit
I am a mom to seven, and I consider being their mom my biggest blessing and best accomplishment! I love being anywhere there are mountains and snow. I enjoy Ice Hockey, Friday Night Lights, Baseball (go Indians and Astros), hiking and watching my kiddos become their own people.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
One of my favorite things about my job is giving owners reprieve from handling the day to day aspects of owning investment properties. As a mom to many, multi-tasking is my middle name, and isn't that the main job of a property manager? Juggle emotions, properties, owners, tenants, vendors, and staying on top of current legislation, laws and happenings all while driving to soccer practice. I just LOVE my job!

IREM San Antonio Member Spotlight - July 2019

Katherine Hagg
Spire Realty Group
CPM® Candidate
Who introduced you to this chapter?
I was a memeber of IREM Austin, so when my job moved me down here it was an easy choice.
Certification Types Received/Seeking
I am current working on my CPM. I am halfway through!
How has IREM contributed to your career?
The best connections I have made have been through IREM, especially being new to town I really relied on property managers for their vendor suggestions.
Background Journey into Real Estate
I started in property management pretty much right after college. I wanted to move out of my college town but didn't know where to go I landed on Austin, because I thought I would get a job saving the world. Instead I got a job at a commercial real estate firm because strangely enough I worked as an office assistant from 15 through 21 at an HOA. I started working in that office and realized I loved real estate and I couldn't turn back.
Society Contributions through Job
Fortunately, in my roll I get to make a positive impact on people's lives. Through budget planning I am able to help my assistant take a few classes this year that will not only help her in her job but help her finish her degree something that before was not financially possible for her.
Personal Tidbit
My Concentration in college was environmental law, Learning about the waste we produce as a global community was eye-opening. So I am a vegetarian, do not buy disposables, I grow a garden, and compost. I spend a lot of time thinking about actions I can take to reduce my carbon footprint.
Favorite Place to Travel
South America, in 2018 I went to Colombia.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I get to meet really interesting people who office in my building and pick their brains, but if I am being honest the best part is the stories. Every property manager has a crazy story about their building, that's always fun to share them and most of the time you learn from them what not to do.
Educational Background
I have a bachelor's degree in political science and one in Psychology from the University of South Carolina.
Family Dynamic
I have two recue dogs Gwen & Esther.
Hobbies
I love being outdoors with my dogs, whether on a trail or just in the backyard.
